Meet Dr. Holcomb
Dr. J. David Holcomb, M.D. is a double board certified Facial Plastic Surgeon and current President of the Florida Society of Facial Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Holcomb completed his residency training at the University of Iowa's Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery -- highly regarded and consistently rated among the best in the country by US News and World Report. Dr. Holcomb subsequently completed a fellowship in advanced cosmetic facial plastic surgery through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS, http://www.facemd.org).
Specialization in medicine has been one of the major enhancements in patient care over the last generation. AAFPRS members not only have a precise focus in patient care but they also have had more comprehensive training in facial surgery than any other medical specialty.
Dr. Holcomb's certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) means that you have found a "Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon" and that Dr. Holcomb has met the rigorous standards of the ABFPRS. The ABFPRS credential signifies that your surgeon: has completed an approved residency after medical school in one of two surgical specialties focusing on facial plastic surgery (Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery or Plastic Surgery); is double boarded, having earned prior certification in one of these specialties through the American Board of Medical Specialties or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada; has successfully completed a two-day examination; has submitted for peer-review an acceptable record of at least two years' clinical experience, including operative reports of a minimum 100 facial plastic surgeries; and holds proper licensure and subscribes to the ABFPRS code of ethics. To learn more about the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, visit their website at http://www.abfprs.org.
Dr. Holcomb is active in several organizations that monitor and protect doctors' ability to deliver subspecialty care. Dr. Holcomb is the President of the Florida Society of Facial Plastic Surgeons (http://www.fsfprs.org) and he also currently serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Sarasota County Medical Society. For more information about the Florida Society of Facial Plastic Surgeons please visit their website (http://www.fsfprs.org).
He is a member of the active medical staff of Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He has served on the Surgical Governance Committee and as Chief of the Division of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He participated in revision of the AAFPRS curriculum for surgeons in-training and serves on the ABFPRS Resource Development Committee. He is a member of the Doctors Health Journal Medical Advisory Board, as well as a contributing author.
Highly skilled at treating patients with difficult problems, new patients frequently ask Dr. Holcomb to revise procedures completed elsewhere. He is passionate about empowering individuals to reach their full potential by improving or restoring facial features that hinder them physically or emotionally. In 2001, he was publicly recognized by the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation as a "Hero" for donating his surgical skills to a young boy with a congenital ear deformity.
Peer-reviewed publications include studies regarding advanced techniques for hairline preservation during brow lift and facelift surgery as well as evaluation of recent trends in facial plastic surgery.
Dr. Holcomb worked with cosmetic dentist Dr. Jill Morris for the 2003 Sarasota Extreme Makeover. In addition to raising money for SPARCC, the event selected an Osprey woman for a life-changing extreme makeover that included cosmetic facial plastic surgery and cosmetic dentistry.
In 2005, Dr. Holcomb was awarded the Doctor's Health Journal Readers Health Choice Award for Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Holcomb's wife, Lisa, is the practice Administrator. She plays a valuable role in setting the tone and policies for the practice, directing their team's pursuit of the highest standards of excellence in patient care.
