Face and neck lifting is an integral part of facial rejuvenation.
The procedure involves neck contouring (liposuction and/or muscle tightening) and direct tightening of the lower face with reduction or elimination of jowling. The procedure has a more indirect effect on the mid-face area, but generally enhances cheek volume and softens the transition area (melolabial fold or smile line area) that separates the cheek and mouth areas.
Facial aging often affects tissue volume at multiple levels. At the skin level, decreased collagen thickness and loss of elasticity lead to formation of wrinkles and tissue sagging. Beneath the skin, a gradual decrease in fat volume and in bone volume occurs.
Some facelift patients may also benefit from separate procedures that further soften the melolabial fold (mid-face lift or filler injection), increase cheek volume (cheek implant procedure) or add length to the chin (chin implant procedure).
